Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager of Howard Lumber Company, the Load Builder is responsible for counting,
sorting, stacking, and moving materials in order to build loads for truck deliveries based on information contained on order
sheets.

Duties and Responsibilities

▪ Read work orders and order sheets or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments and material and
equipment needs.
▪ Move freight, stock, and other materials to and from storage, loading docks, delivery vehicles, and containers,
by hand or forklift equipment.
▪ Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
▪ Carry needed tools and supplies from storage or trucks, and return them after use.
▪ Pull materials for orders;
▪ Count the number of articles to verify the number specified on the order sheet;
▪ Unwind plastic or metal banding materials from reels;
▪ Wrap bands around stacks or bundles;
▪ Fasten plastic or metal bands around stacks or bundles;
▪ Use strapping tools to secure articles during storage or shipment;
▪ Operate fork lift to move articles before or after bundling;
▪ Mark customer’s lot number, or other identifying data on visible portion of bundle with permanent marker;
▪ Band articles to pallet to secure articles for moving;
▪ Load articles on trucks for delivery;
▪ Assist drivers, as a Driver Helper, with deliveries, as needed;
▪ Assist customers with loading and unloading materials from their vehicles;
▪ Follow established safety rules and maintaining a clean work area, equipment, and work environment.

High School Diploma or GED. At least 6 months to a year experience as a material handler in a warehouse environment. Knowledge of building materials and supplies. Forklift operator certification.
